• The earliest 50's American Optical catalogue
  
  we have is 1958 and the Sirmont is listed, but
  
  we can't say if it was new that year. The colour
  
  looks to be their Cordovan, a rich, dark brown
  
  named after horsehide used for making shoes.
  
  The Sirmont at the time was described as, "..most
  
  popular eyeshape...accurate fitting....rocking nose
  
  pads....wide arched line-engraved bridge..." The
  
  cowhide slip case was also featured in the same
  
  catalogue and although we acquired it separately,
  
  it makes a wonderful, original package.
