Swank were an American company specialising
in importing and commissioning eyewear from
Europe (but later transferring their operations
to the Far East). We have a catalogue of theirs
dated
1968 and although this pair doesn't appear,
it is from around this period. In the catalogue
their frames are described as, "...Smart fashions
for the smart set...the choice of discriminating
....exquisite fashions, interpreted by the world's
leading stylists....the elegant, the charming, the
unusual - that's Swank!" This pair came to us with
a sticker saying the model name, Bordeaux which is why
we know it was unworn - and only marked down
lens-wise due to very slight storage marks. It is a
slightly wrapped frame probably from the late
1960's and quite a progressive shape for the time.
The gold metal strip is inserted into the top and is
its best feature. The quality is good, with 7 barrel
hinges pinned though front and back and the arms
have a clear layer on the inside to expose full length
wire cores. Quality and craftsmanship collide - that's Swank!
