info

The Carrera brand, born in Traun, Austria in 1953, took

its name after the legendary Mexican automobile race,

the Carrera Pan-American. The brand was started by

Wilhelm Anger who had been producing frames since after

WWII with his family and was into motoracing, having

designed some of his own sports glasses. Experimenting

with plastics, Anger invented and patented the material

Optyl in 1964 - a lightweight material that could take

on all colours. This new material was ideal for his larger

Carrera frames and success followed. This pair made when

they were at their peak in the mid-1980s and bears the

Optyl logo. The arms are a brushed aluminium with the

Carrera logo underlined with some go-faster stripes.

This pair had been previously loved so we reproduced

the lenses with the same gradient colour as the originals.

A large frame which could suit men or women. Carrera was

sold to Italian company Safilo in the 1990s who continue

to make sunglasses and reproduce the classic pairs.
