info

'Marwitz' stamped here on the arm of this 1980s big boy is

'Marwitz and Hauser'. This company was based in Stuttgart

and started in 1918. It was one of a handful of high-end

German makers of eyewear and became famous for superlative

quality. In 1958 Carl Zeiss had acquired a majority shareholding

in Marwitz whihc is why Marwitz sunglasses frames were always

fitted with the Zeiss sherry tinted Umbral mineral glass lenses

- this pair being the darker 85% LTF shade. Yves Chantal was a

range of their sunglasses thast were produced in the 1970s and

80s and this pair is a LARGE example - see size guide. Frame

condition marked down to 'good' only because a previous owner

etched their initials on the inside of the right arm, barely

discernable from the outside.
