info
The classic eighties pair of sunglasses? Perhaps
helped by their appearance in both
The Blues Brothers
(1980) worn by John Belushi and later in
Risky Business
(1983) worn by Tom Cruise. They were actually designed
by
Baush & Lomb in 1954 who continued to make them
until they sold the company to Luxottica in 1999. They
changed slightly over the years but from 1961-1999 not
much: just the discreet BL etching on the lenses added
in the late 70s. This is the regular size 50[]22 and by
the looks of the sticker promoting the 1994 Olympics was
made in the early 90s. Luxottica remain the owners of
the Ray-Ban brand and still sell a Wayfarer today, but
of course they haven't got the Bausch & Lomb lenses
- and someone even told us that the original lozenge
plaque is no longer integral to the hinge, it is merely
a glued on piece of decoration. Indeed!
