We believe that this pair is one of the first
made by Bollé, either in the late 1930's or
early 1940's. Although the company started
in France in 1888, they made combs and hair
ornaments, later from celluloid. In 1932 they
set up in London (under the name Thurgar
Bollé) and 4 years later they started making
sunglasses for the first time... "Wherever
the sun shines, you will see Thurgar Bollé",
became their first advertising campaign. The
beautiful shade of plastic contrasts well with
darker grey lenses. NB: frame marked down
due to faults at both arm bends....looks like a
previous attempt to adjust arms with heat
....don't try this at home! Not noticed when
being worn.
