other info
  • Carrera's Wilhelm Anger invented the frame material Optyl

in 1964 and from that point the company expanded hugely,

not just in their own sports eyewear, but by the 1980's,

making eyewear under licence for such design houses as

Dunhill and Hugo Boss. This frame is typical of an Eighties

men's frame with a large traditional shape, kept light in Optyl,

but given a twist with the ox-blood and green camo layer on

the face of a deep straw-colour. Gold lozenge inserts at the

temples go down the arms, inscribed with the 'Boss' logo. Boss

by Carrera designs are now sought by collectors as this union

of two eighties super-brands produced a short run of luxury

eyewear products. For history buffs out there, Hugo Boss

(since 1924) goes on, but the great Carrera is now part of

    the Safilo Group.
