other info
  • Victory Optical was founded in 1941 by Vincent Salierno in

Newark, NJ. He went on to design some of the best frames

and sunglasses of the mid-20th century in America. This pair

is part of a range that Victory brought out in the the mid-

1960's. Although the design number has been rubbed away,

this looks to be one of the S-507's that we sometimes find

    - check out this pair we already have on the site in pearl.

We also have an ad from 1966 which shows this model in

the new Sandalwood: it is their own wood-effect

acetate which they say was the first of its kind. Our pair

is a triple layer acetate, pearly brown over white and black,

the layers revealed in the carved leaf patterns on the sides.

We found this pair fitted with prescription sunglass lenses

and so changed them to Klasik Grey mineral glass lenses,

mindful that "Gray-Ray" was the original and exclusive

    Suntimer glass lens colour.

Note: Incidentally, the grandsons of Vincent Salierno are also in the optical business
and are recreating some of their best designs from this period - perhaps this one
soon. Check out their web site.
