The name of designer Christian Latour has perhaps not
maintained as high a profile as that of Guy Laroche, but
in the 1980's, both chose the same maker - in France -
for their sunglasses. We were lucky to find this pair by
Latour, unworn, and just loved the wrap shape and raspberry
ripple colours. The lenses are an inky purple and being in
a gradient tint and divided into two at the bridge, the look
of this wrap style is less engulfing. The overall lightness is
enhanced further by the pearlescent colours of the frame,
which also accentuate that seductive dipped brow. The
stepped shaping is quite 'Deco' and the arrow-end gold tabs
with tiny, dinky screws and the CL logo, bring us right back
to the Eighties. The lenses have been stored incorrectly so
they are not perfect but this doesn't detract too much from
what is a pair of sunglasses from the last days of French
fashion designers using French makers: the world's greatest.
In the 1990's came mass-production and the move to
factories in the Far East. It's really never been the same since.
